Text Box: Recently Commissioner Boldt remarked that all the county really does is transportation and land use planning. For the last four years the county has been focusing too much on growth and not enough on its many other roles, including, health and human services.

The economy is hurting many Clark County families and the housing industry has certainly taken a direct hit. So, what is the county’s role in the economy? It is important to have an adequate land supply for housing and the county has a plan to do just that. However, even more important is land for jobs and this is poorly planned.

People have asked me what would be the first thing I’d do as a county commissioner. I’d like to see the county commissioners convene a Regional Economic Development Team. Stakeholders such as mayors, administrators, special purpose districts and major economic sectors representatives creating a vision of what we want Clark County’s economy to be and how we are going to achieve it as one region … One Clark County.
